Gandikota Fort, a fort built in the 13th century and located in Andhra Pradesh’s Kadapa district, is an important historical site. Gandikota History
Gandikota Fort was built in the 13th Century by the Kakatiya Dynasty. Later, it was ruled by Pemmasani Nayakas and the Golconda Sultanate. In the 17th Century, it was abandoned and fell into ruin.
Architecture
It is a massive fort with a circumference of more than 5 miles. The regiment comprises a series of walls, towers, and bastions. The walls, made from red sandstone and can reach up to 40 feet in height at some points, are made by towers and bastions. Towers and bastions offer excellent defensive vantage points.
In the fort are remnants of palaces, mosques, and temples. Jami Masjid is the most prominent mosque built in the 16th Century. This mosque, which has a large dome in the middle and four minarets, is an excellent example of Islamic architecture.
